FIS English Teacher Professional Development: Experiential Learning in a Communicative Classroom
On Saturday, April 26th, 2025, three FIS English teachers—Ms. Harum, Ms. Sasa, and Ms. Gita—participated in a Professional Development training organized by the Mentari Group, held at Global Islamic School in Yogyakarta. The session, which brought together over 40 English teachers from across Yogyakarta and Central Java, began in the morning and offered a full day of insightful learning and collaboration.
The training was led by Ms. Siska Melia and focused on “Experiential Learning in a Communicative Classroom.”Participants explored an effective methodology and an accessible teaching program designed specifically for primary-level learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and English as a Second Language (ESL).
Ms. Siska shared valuable strategies for creating interactive, engaging, and structured learning activities. The session emphasized practical approaches to help students use English functionally and confidently in real-life situations.
Through this enriching professional development opportunity, FIS teachers deepened their understanding of how to design meaningful and enjoyable English lessons. The insights gained will support them in enhancing classroom practices, empowering students to use English more fluently and effectively in their daily lives. ***
