Toddler – Maths: The colourful Minibeast

Toddlers engaged in an exciting hands-on lesson about minibeasts, designed to enhance their understanding of colors and movement. Before the session, the teacher strategically hid pictures of various minibeasts, such as caterpillars, ants, butterflies, and spiders, around the classroom. To begin the lesson, the teacher introduced the students to different ground-dwelling and flying minibeasts, encouraging them to identify their colors and compare them to objects in the classroom. Using color flashcards, students practiced recognizing and naming colors before embarking on a minibeast hunt, where they searched for hidden images based on specific colors like red, blue, yellow, green, and orange.

The activity progressed to a dynamic classification game, where students imitated the movement of their chosen minibeast—either crawling for ground creatures or flapping for those that could fly. After selecting their minibeast, they matched and pasted the pictures onto a corresponding colored asturo paper. This engaging lesson not only strengthened the children’s color recognition and categorization skills but also fostered an interactive and joyful learning experience. By incorporating movement and exploration, the activity supported the development of early cognitive and motor skills while making Maths concepts fun and accessible.
