Toddler – Learning Project: My Colourful Bird Day (3 & 4)
My Colourful Bird: Navigating Ideas and Crafting Prototypes. In the continuation of the learning project, Toddler students explored their creativity by designing their own colourful bird. The activity started with a review of bird types and their body parts, helping students identify and recall key features. Next, students expressed their ideas by filling out a chart to plan their bird design. They made decisions about the bird’s head shape, body colour, and tail colour, engaging in creative decision-making and recording their preferences. Using their recorded ideas, the students created prototypes of My Colourful Bird by following structured steps. They crumpled wax paper, crayoned the bird’s body parts, painted the head, and pasted additional materials. As they worked, they compared their designs with their creations, discussing how their choices were reflected in the final product. Finally, students reflected on their work by sharing their design choices with peers and teachers. They explained their colour and shape selections, imagined how their bird might look or behave in real life, and connected their artistic creations to broader ideas. This encouraged them to evaluate and explain their work in a meaningful and simple way. The My Colourful Bird project offered a comprehensive learning experience where students navigated their ideas, crafted prototypes, and reflected on their achievements. Through this engaging activity, they developed critical thinking, fine motor skills, and a deeper appreciation for the creative process. ***
