Toddler – English: The Minibeast Feast

The lesson on The Very Hungry Caterpillar engaged students in activities that enhanced their comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking. They began by recalling key details of the story, such as the caterpillar’s color, its favorite food, and its transformation into a butterfly. Using visual aids, students practiced recognizing and naming fruits, reinforcing their understanding of colors through guided questions and interactive picture cards. They then applied their knowledge by matching fruit colors with words. The Feeding the Caterpillar activity helped them connect visuals with written words, strengthening early literacy skills.

As the lesson progressed, students participated in sequencing and role-playing, pretending to be caterpillars while recalling the food items from the story. This encouraged deeper understanding and engagement. The transition from picture cues to sight words helped students practice reading and word recognition. In the final phase, students connected the story to real-life experiences during the Minibeast Feast, where they described their insect-themed meals. This well-rounded approach reinforced their literacy skills while encouraging creativity, social interaction, and connections between learning and everyday life.
