Primary 6 – Visual Arts: Sports on News

As part of their “Sport on News” theme, Primary 6 students expanded their creativity by designing futuristic sports through group collaboration. The session began with a teacher-led introduction to various existing sports, presented through slides and printed images. A lively class discussion followed, where students reflected on how sports have evolved over time, setting the stage for their creative exploration.

Building on this foundation, students were tasked with independently brainstorming ideas for a completely new sport that could emerge in the future. They sketched their initial concepts on A4 paper, focusing on imaginative details. Once their ideas were finalized, the groups transferred their designs to larger poster paper, providing additional details such as the name of the sport, its rules, how to play, and the required equipment.

To bring their creations to life, students colored and decorated their posters using colored pencils and markers, ensuring their designs were both detailed and visually engaging. Each group then presented their unique and imaginative sports to the class, confidently explaining their concepts and the thought process behind their designs.

This activity encouraged students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and manage their time while fostering their creativity and communication skills. It was a fun and meaningful way to combine design, teamwork, and problem-solving, resulting in innovative sports that showcased the students’ imaginations. ***
