Primary 6 – SLC: This is My Meaningful Learning Experience!
In the end of term 3, P6 students have a chance to do Students-Led Conference or SLC. SLC is a precious moment where students are given opportunity to lead in expressing and sharing their learning experience to parents for about 20 minutes. SLC has aim to encourage students to take ownership of their learning, to boost the students’ confidence and to strengthen the students-parents relationship since parents will be able to know deeper about their child’s learning process so far.
Students started the SLC by greeting parents and preparing their presentation. Then, they presented the chosen learning experience in front of their parents. After presenting, students asked feedback from parents about their performance then accompanied parents to see portfolio and display in the classroom. In the end of the session, students gave the portfolio to parents then said thank you to parents for coming to their SLC.
Students were doing the best in preparing the presentation. They chose the most meaningful learning experience in primary then made the contents about the reasons in choosing the experience, how the learning process happened, what is the best moment and good value learnt, also about their feeling when they were dealing with the chosen learning experience. During the SLC, students also looked enthusiastic in sharing their learning experiences. They also felt happy to know the positive feedback shared from parents which motivate them more to have more meaningful learning experience.
From this program, students learnt how to convey their ideas and feelings in a better way. They also managed to have more responsibilities since they made the best preparation during the progress until they have done with the presentation. Moreover, students are expected to develop their speaking skills and reflect more on the progress of their learning at school.
