Primary 6 – Reading Program: The Final BRT
On June 10th, 2025, P6 had their Book Reference Time (BRT) Phase 3. It was the peak and the end of the Reading Program in Primary. It was also the last round and continuation from levels before them, who had done the BRT Phase 3 in May. P6 students shared what they’ve read to their reading coach in the library.
The students made their own choice of book; some chose by themselves while others got recommendations from friends or siblings. They learned to understand what they’ve read by finding important information, moral values, and new things they had never known before. During the sharing time, students and their reading coach discussed the book, their experience in reading it, and the impact of reading on them.
This BRT was the last BRT that P6 will have at the Primary Level. They’ve done this for a long time, and each time, their skills and interest in reading grow. It showed that reading skills and interest are important to develop through consistent stimulation. As their skill grows, so does their confidence. The once nervous kids sharing their books have now become young teens ready to present everything they’ve read.
Through this reading program, students develop positive reading habits and analytical thinking since they have their prior interest in the book they are reading. BRT served as a training wheel for further skills, like analysis, research, language, and even writing. In the future, with improving and promising skills, the students can improve their skills in literacy even further to an even advanced level. ***
