Primary 6 – Reading Program: Creating Story Cube
P6 students have reading stimulation time during L-Fest week. The reading stimulation includes several activities. First, P6 students had a reading time. Once they have finished reading their book, they have to sum up the intrinsic elements and summary of the story. Then, they have to present the book to a friend and gain feedback from their friend. They record the intrinsic element, summary, friend’s feedback and the strategy as the follow up in a worksheet. This activity helps them to have better understanding toward the content of their book and reflect on their storytelling performance.
Second, P6 students got a challenge to present the story to the classroom teacher. The classroom teacher assesses how far the students understand about the story the have read and how the way the present the story. Students got a reading pass ticket. This ticket was a prove that they have done reading the book and have good understanding to the story they’ve read. Later on, they will give the ticket to reading coach during BRT presentation.
Third, P6 students make a story cube. Students record some important information such as main character, supporting characters, setting place and time, conflict of the story, resolution and moral value on this story cube. This story cube will be a unique media that can help students remembering the important information and present the story smoothly during BRT presentation day.
Through those activities, the excitement of reading, reading comprehension and creativity in delivering the story can be boosted. It can be seen from students’ enthusiasm, struggle and progress during this reading stimulation activities.
