Primary 6 – One Moment in Time: Fascinating Discovery of Semarang
Ujian Sekolah is over and here are fun times. Primary 6 One Moment in Time, or OMIT in short, is not only a fun, long-awaited trip but also a momentous learning experience for the students. They looked forward and asked a lot about this event and the joy was heartfelt when it was officially announced.
After the announcement, students were preparing the checklist of things that they would need for the trip. They learned how to fold their shirts and trousers so that they could pack their suitcase later on. The teacher explained the rules, the Dos and Don’ts as well as the travel itinerary a week before the trip.
The students gathered in the FIS Secondary building on Monday, 3 June 2024. They brought their stuff and were looking very excited about the journey. The bus took off after the morning briefing and pictures-taking. Students requested a list of songs to be sung on the way to the first destination.
The bus arrived on time at Saloka Theme Park. Students raced to get on the shuttle that would bring them to the amusement park. Students explored all the rides and enjoyed many snacks at Saloka for around three hours. They had lunch together before going to Nissin Emporium for the second destination.
There, students learned about the history of the Nissin Emporium and got a chance to see the production process. After the tour, students bought some cookies and snacks as gifts to their families.
The students went to Kotta Hotel where they stayed the night. They arrived there around 5 in the evening. After getting their room key, they unpacked their suitcase and rested for a while before having dinner together. Dinnertime was warm with conversation and laughter. Teachers and students gathered to have a memorable night time filled with games while also reminiscing the time they had spent together.
For the second day, students walked through the street of Kota Lama, adoring the old Dutch buildings that are reserved around the area. They went back to the Hotel to pack their bags and prepare to go home. The last destination was Cimory on the Valley. Students had lunch there and played around the playground on the site. Tired but happy, students hopped on the bus and went back to Solo. Their arrival was welcomed by their parents and family.
This activity was exciting and hyped, but actually, it taught students a lot of good values, like how to be responsible and how to behave among a foreign crowd. It also introduced students to practical life skills, like packing, managing their money, and staying safe throughout the journey. It is indeed a delightful One Moment in Time. ***
