Primary 6 – Mathematics: Amathzing Maze
Primary 6 students made “Amathzing Maze” to prepare for the upcoming topic test. Amathzing Maze is a game of maze which is combined with Mathematics which discuss about multiplication, division and number patterns. They were challenged to make a special route which will direct them to reach the “goal”. Questions and optional answers were made first to fill the maze template. They did this challenge in pairs.
Students made the questions and optional answers based on the themes which were set as the main ideas. They created them on their own understanding by exploring what they have known and discussing the best work with their partner to realize the maze. The challenging part went to the special route making. They had to set some strategies to create the easy or complex path to pass in reaching the “goal”.
This activity helped students improve their focus and decision making. They did the observation carefully to make the maze worked well, especially when they needed to track the path back and tried another possible path to pass. Moreover, students also learnt to analyze their work and make plan ahead before choosing a route. It also encouraged them to train their teamwork skill better by communicating ideas to their partners.
Additionally, this activity stimulated the students’ creativity, where art and logic were blended into a review adventure. It also made them become more enjoyable in learning Maths, in which their learning from errors will be a valuable reinforcement to have a growth mindset to be more patience and persistence in taking a challenge. ***
