Primary 6 – IPC: Metacognition
Brainwave: Metacognition is the IPC topic in Primary 6. At first, students got a chance to arrange letters into the word “METACOGNITION”. Teachers guided the students into a discussion about what metacognition is. Through the discussion, students could make the definition that metacognition is a state in which the students can understand, analyze, and control their learning process. Through this definition, students also got the idea that critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving are some skills that they need to have. To understand deeper about the topic, students were provided with a challenge to make three games that foster metacognitive awareness and self-regulated learning. It also helped the students to reveal their current knowledge and thinking skills including verbal reasoning, abstract reasoning, and spatial perception.
To do this activity, students worked in a group of 6. Then, they made the games such as jumbled letters, puzzles, and tangrams. This activity was very challenging for the students. It boosted their creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration to make the game. This activity focuses on stimulating skills and choices that can improve learning and encourage self-regulated learning. The students were thrilled when doing this activity. ***
