Primary 6 – IPC: Entry Point of Going Global
In Term 2, P6 students dove into the Going Global unit for the IPC topic. They began by learning key terms related to global trade, such as trade, export, import, economically wealthy country, and economically developing country. After understanding these concepts, students participated in the Trading Game, an interactive simulation designed to give them a hands-on experience with international trade operations. The game allowed them to step into the roles of exporters, and importers, and navigate global market demands.
The game kicked off by dividing students into groups of three. Each group chose a country based on its exported and imported goods and designed a national flag. Countries represented included Indonesia, Australia, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Niger, Ghana, and more.
Each group was given blank cards, on which they listed the goods their country exported. The goal of the game was to collect six imported goods from other countries by swapping their exports for imports through negotiation with other groups. Once they completed their exchanges, they reported to the “bank,” which awarded points based on the number of imported goods collected. The country with the most points at the end of the game was declared the winner.
Through this engaging activity, students gained practical insights into how export and import operations work, experiencing the challenges and dynamics of international trade firsthand. They practiced negotiating deals, making strategic decisions, and thinking critically about trade-offs and market demands. The Trading Game sparked excitement and engagement, with students fully immersed in the process, learning valuable lessons about global economics in a fun and interactive way. ***
