Primary 6 – English: Flashback in Stories
This week, Primary 6 students learned about flashbacks in narrative stories. At the beginning of the lesson, they were challenged to recall what they know about narrative text features. They were able to state that a narrative text has settings, characters, moral values, and a plot.
The teacher dug deeper into students’ prior knowledge about the plot. It is explained that narrative story plots can occur in the form of flashbacks. After writing some notes related to flashbacks, students analyzed how flashbacks happened in movies and stories. They identified the events prior to flashback: the steps and the detailed description that transitioned from the present moment to the past.
The lesson continued. Students read some more examples of flashbacks in stories from their Learner’s Book. They were asked to identify the main characters of the story and define the personality of each character. They worked together in pairs. At the end of the lesson, students answered three verbal exit slips related to things they had learned that day. ***
