Primary 6 – English: Finding My Voice English Masterclass

On Monday, 23 February 2026, Primary 6 students took part in “Finding My Voice: An English Masterclass” with a special guest native instructor from English 1. The masterclass aimed to help students develop confidence and learn how to deliver their ideas more expressively.

The 50-minute session began with the instructor performing two contrast monologues – one humorous, one dramatic, demonstrating how voice, gesture and emotion bring words to life. Students observed how spoken English requires not only correct grammar but also effective delivery. Four brave volunteers received live coaching on pacing, tone, pause and expression. While these students performed, the rest of the class observed closely and recorded techniques in their journals, learning valuable lessons from watching their friends get the feedback from the native speaker.

It was the first time for P6 students to get coached by a native speaker – thus brought a different level to their engagement. They recalled techniques, observed coaching in action and reflected on how to apply these techniques to their own performances.

This experience built lasting confidence, helped students understand feedback as a tool for growth. By observing and hearing English used naturally, they learnt to see it as a living language, not just a textbook subject. Skills like public speaking and learning from others will benefit them in doing presentations, group projects and real-life interactions – which creates a stronger English-speaking culture at school. It also provided meaningful exposure to authentic spoken English and encouraged students to continue developing their communication skills.
