Primary 5 – Science: Pitch and Volume

Firstly, Primary 5 students learned that sounds are made when objects vibrate. The vibration makes the air particles around the object vibrate and causes the sound to travel to their ears. They also learned that a sound has different pitches and volumes. In this activity, they got information about the pitch and volume by reading the Student’s Book and having a class discussion with the teacher.

Then, students did a simple experiment using a snack box and rubber bands. They stretched the rubber bands on the snack box and plucked it in different patterns. P5 students observed the pitch and volume produced by changing the strength of plucking. Through the experiment, students concluded that the harder they plucked the rubber band, the louder the sound produced. ***
