Primary 5 – Science: Amazing Pollution Awareness Books for Better Future
On Friday last week, Primary 5 students carried out a learning activity by creating a “Types of Pollution and How to Reduce It” book in groups. This activity aimed to deepen their understanding of pollution while developing their critical thinking skills based on real life experience
The activity began with a home-link task, where students individually identified types of pollution that happen in their surroundings. They explored the effects of these issues and suggested possible ways to reduce or prevent them. The responses were varied and reflected real situations in their daily lives because the task was based on students’ personal observations.
After completing the individual task, students gathered in groups to discuss and share their findings. Through this discussion, they shared the ideas and discovered many solutions for different types of pollution. Each group selected types of pollution, along with its examples and possible solutions, to be compiled into their group book.
At the end of the activity, each group presented their work in front of the class. Students explained the type of pollution they had chosen, its impact, and practical ways to reduce or prevent it. This presentation session helped strengthen their confidence and communication skills.
Through this activity, students gained a deeper understanding of pollution and its effects on their daily life. They also developed critical thinking by identifying simple and practical solutions, such as using reusable bottles to reduce plastic waste and choosing public transportation to minimize air pollution. Overall, the activity encouraged students to become more aware and responsible toward their environment.
