Primary 5 – Maths: Maths in Comic

P5 students were presented with a real-life problem in the form of a story-word and found the solution in a different way. The students were provided with a simple story-word problem related to gaming – something that is very close to them. They read the scenario and change it into a comic. Through the comic, they dissect the story-word problem into panels to find the information needed to solve the final problem.

Through this activity, students not only pour out their creativity into a new way to solve a math problem, but it also encourages students in their reading and understanding skills. They need to read the story-word problem first before they can solve the actual problem, just like how they need to collect information before diving into a solution. Not only that, but they also need their analytic skill to dissect which part is the actual information.

This activity served as a reminder that understanding skill is an important in daily life, even as simple as turning a story into a comic.
