Primary 5 – IPC: Welcome to DIY Playdough Workshop!
P5 students had an experiment of making new materials from useful materials around them, such as flour, salt, food coloring, and warm water, to make DIY Playdough. The students were challenged to prove that they could make their own Playdough which has the same characteristics as commercial Playdough, even if it is safe for the environment. Not only exploring making new materials, but students also proved that there were changing states of matter during the experiment, which was the mixing of flour and water that formed another type of solid that we called dough.
To deepen their understanding, students were given a chance to share this memorable experiment through a DIY Playdough workshop with P1 students who would be interactively involved in this collaboration. P1 students were excited to observe P5 students do each step-by-step in this workshop. This workshop offered a comprehensive learning experience where students arranged their ideas into a practical session to be shared with other students cooperatively. This collaboration was designed to enhance the students’ understanding of choosing useful materials in their daily life. Through this enjoyable activity, they improved structural thinking, communication, and fine motor skills to be applied in the following meaningful learning activity. ***
