Primary 5 – Global Perspective: My Voice is Changing
In the Global Perspective lesson, Grade 5 students continue to explore the theme of Puberty through various activities designed to connect learning with their everyday experiences. In this session, the focus of learning was on voice changes that occur during puberty. The lesson began with a voice-guessing game involving both students and the teacher. This simple activity immediately captured the students’ attention and created a lively classroom atmosphere filled with curiosity.
After the game, students were invited to discuss why boys’ and girls’ voices are different and how they are able to distinguish between the voices of teachers and their peers. This discussion encouraged students to think critically and helped them realize that voice changes are a natural part of human growth and development. The teacher then explained the reasons behind voice changes after puberty, followed by an opportunity for students to experiment with producing high- and low-pitched sounds. This activity not only clarified the concept but also made the learning experience more engaging and enjoyable.
At the end of the lesson, students were given a task to summarize what they had learned about voice changes during puberty. Interestingly, each student demonstrated their understanding in a different way. Some wrote reflective paragraphs, others shared personal experiences, some presented detailed theoretical explanations, added supporting illustrations, or created tables comparing similarities and differences, as well as simple bullet points. This variety of responses highlighted the unique ways students express their understanding.
Through this learning experience, all students were able to demonstrate a solid understanding of the topic. We hope that by becoming more familiar with the characteristics of puberty, students will feel calmer and more confident in facing the changes they experience and grow toward maturity in a positive and healthy way.
