Primary 4 – Science: Electrical Current
P4 students have learnt about electrical components which consist of battery, wire, switch and bulb. They also moved around inside and outside the classrooms to observe whether electrical devices they found had the same basic components or more complicated.
The students identified that they could arrange a simple electrical circuit using the components because each of it has its own function. First, they had to make sure that a simple electric circuit had one or more batteries as the electric power, wire to connect electric current, switch to open and close the circuit and bulb to give the light.
The students explored their knowledge by doing an experiment. P4 students could describe a closed and open circuit through the exploration. They have also learnt that electrical device would not work if there was a break in the circuit.
Learning about simple electrical circuit will help the students identifying the electric devices around them which use battery, wire, switch and bulb as the main components. More complicated electrical devices mean they have more electrical current flowing through the wires. By understanding the situation, P4 students will be more aware of keeping themselves safe whenever they work with electrical devices. ***
