Primary 4 – Maths: Shape Arts

On Wednesday, 1 October 2025, P4 students learned about combining 2D shapes in Maths lesson. The session introduced learners to the concept of composing new figures by joining basic geometric shapes such as triangles, squares, circles and rectangles. Through guided exploration, students discovered how these combinations could form more complex and meaningful designs.

To reinforce the concept, students took part in a hands-on activity using origami paper. They carefully cut out various 2D shapes, experimented with different arrangements, and created new composite figures. These creations were then glued onto drawing paper. From rockets, animals to another creative designs, each student’s work reflected both mathematical understanding and personal creativity.

This activity helped students learn in many ways. By cutting and combining shapes with their hands, they better understood how shapes fit together. It also improved their hand coordination, sparked creativity, and gave them a chance to work and share ideas with their classmates.

Overall, the lesson was a joyful blend of Maths and Arts. It highlighted the value of hands-on learning and demonstrated how creative approaches can deepen understanding while sparking enthusiasm in the classroom. ***
