Primary 4 – Maths: Data Representation Assessment
Primary 4 students have learnt about Data Representations. The lesson began with knowing how to record and organise the data with Tally Chart and grouped it into frequency tables. After that, the students learnt another data representations like Pictogram, Bar Chart, Dot Plot, Carrol Diagram, and Venn Diagram.
The students got verbal and written test to evaluate their learning progress, understanding, and skills. The students answered the questions given on the test paper, then they chose one of the graphs or diagrams for the verbal test. For the verbal test, the students should mention the name, the function, and the information of the graph/diagram. They also needed to explain the reason behind their answers from the questions given.
Verbal test can be used to measure the student’s communication skills and allowed deeper probing into the topic. This kind of test also allowed students to think critically and respond quickly upon the matters they faced. Students seemed enthusiastic in taking the verbal test because they could show other skills that they have besides counting skills.
This kind of assessment can encourage the students to develop and enhance their communication skills, including clarity, fluency, and confidence in speaking. It will help them to engage and interact with others in any environment they will be involved in the future.
