Primary 4: Know Your Super Friend
In lesson for Primary 4, students were introduced to the theme for Term 3, which was Friendship. The teacher began the lesson by asking students if they knew what a superhero was. Students were asked to think about all the superheroes they knew and liked. Some students were invited to write their answers on the whiteboard. After that, the teacher asked the students to explain the reasons for choosing their superheroes.
The lesson then continued with a deeper discussion about the concept of a Super Friend. The teacher gave each student a blank piece of paper. The teacher explained that the students would draw and label a person called a “Super Friend.” Students were asked to give a name to their Super Friend. They also described the characteristics of their Super Friend, such as being kind, helpful, and honest. After finishing their drawings, students discussed their Super Friend in groups of three.
Next, the teacher asked students to share their Super Friend with other friends. Some representatives of students took turns presenting their Super Friend to the class. The teacher encouraged all group members to be active listeners during the presentation. Students were also encouraged to ask questions to the presenter about their Super Friend. This activity helped students practice communication and respect for others’ ideas.
At the end of the lesson, the teacher led a class reflection about friendship. Students were asked to think about the qualities of a good friend in real life. The teacher connected the Super Friend activity to students’ daily interactions at school. Students shared examples of how they could be a good friend to others. Through this lesson, students gained a better understanding of friendship and positive relationships.
Overall, the Super Friend activity had a positive impact on students’ understanding of friendship in a meaningful and engaging way. The lesson encouraged students to reflect on positive values such as kindness, honesty, and helpfulness, and to relate these qualities to their own behavior. Through drawing Super Friend, having a discussion, and presentation, students developed confidence, communication skills, and respect for different perspectives. As a result, students were more aware of how their actions can influence friendships and create a supportive classroom environment.
