Primary 3 – Orientation: Class of Coding Champions
On Friday, July 25th, P3 students celebrated their coming to new academic year with a playful coding-inspired games. The games were more than just play, they were building blocks for thinking and learning. From connecting shapes with coloured lines to solving tricky mazes, each challenge helped students start thinking in order, noticing patterns, and solving problems as a team. The room was full of energy, laughter, and bright ideas as they worked their way through each round.
After every game, students took time to talk about what they did and how they did it. They thought about the order of their steps, the strategies they used, and how they could improve next time. They also practiced putting their thinking into words, using English to explain their process. These moments of reflection helped them understand the real steps on doing something, and gave them confidence in expressing their thoughts.
One of the highlights came at the end, when students got to create their own coding games. They designed paths, set up rules, and came up with challenges for their classmates to solve. Using the preferences from the previous games, they explained how their games worked and why they made certain choices. They also exchanged their games with their friends and had lots of fun decoding the patterns. It was incredible to see how much they had learned and how proudly they designed their idea into something real.
This experience was more than just a fun way to start the term. It gave students a head start in thinking clearly, working together, and expressing themselves. These are skills they’ll carry into every subject they study and far beyond the classroom. Orientation may be over, but the impact is just beginning. ***
