Primary 3 – Maths: Find Out and Represent Data
P3 Students was starting Term 4 by recalling materials about data. They had opportunity to study data handling including the step by step of collecting and proceeding data. They learnt some materials in data handling such as how to collect data, record and present it visually applying data representation.
After studying the materials, students did a project to find out the number of siblings their friends have. They joined with their group to make it easier. Students conducted a simple interview each other then recorded the information that got from the interview. When students finished, teacher checked their work and confirmed the information they put in the data. If everything had completed, students could start to make the data representation such as bar chart or pictogram.
Students created the data representation carefuly based on the recorded data they had. They also decorated their works and practised to present it. They had to present the process and the result of their project. Students were so excited because they could make the data representation from the data collected by themselves.
By learning about data handling, students understood how important organising data and how to take information from data representation. Doing the project also gave them experience to record, organise and represent data in the correct way. These skills are also essentials and can support students to carry out daily practices. ***
