Primary 3 Interactive Activities with UPHC Students
On Thursday, UPHC (Universitas Pelita Harapan Collage) students visiting Primary level and some of P3 students joining fun learning activities with them. The students were introduced to two exciting activities: making sweet cookie balls using simple ingredients and conducting a lava science experiment. The UPHC students also joined the lesson in some Primary classes and built interaction with students.
The process of the activities was both collaborative and creative. For the cooking activity, UPHC students first demonstrated how to prepare the cookie dough using crushed regal cookies and condensed milk. Once the dough was ready, P3 students took over by shaping the mixture into cookie balls by themselves. They were encouraged to use their imagination, making different shapes and adding creative touches with simple toppings, which turned the task into a delightful blend of learning and play. Meanwhile, the science activity introduced them to the basics of chemical reactions. They combined baking soda, vinegar, food colouring, and egg white to make a lava experiment. The goal of these activities was not only to explore creativity and curiosity but also to experience teamwork and problem-solving in a joyful way.
These activities allowed the students to connect what they know with new hands-on experiences. From the experiment, students learnt that sometimes things didn’t work as expected. Their first attempt at making lava didn’t explode, which showed them that mistakes can happen in having experiment. Instead of giving up, they tried again and improved the process in their second attempt, achieving better results. This experience is expected to build resilience, persistence, and nurture growth mindset.
The impact of these activities was meaningful for the students’ real-life learning. They reflected that both cooking and science need patience, practice, and a willingness to try again. Just like in their daily life, they understood that failure is not the end but an opportunity to grow and improve. These experiences encouraged them to stay creative, resilient, and confident in facing challenges. ***
