Primary 3 – First Day of School: Introduction to Self-Regulated Emotions

Primary 3 students started Semester 2 with a learning activity about Self-Regulated Emotions. On the first day, students were introduced to different kinds of feelings and learnt the names of common emotions such as anger, sadness, joy and fear. This introduction helped students feel more aware of their emotions from the beginning of the semester.

The day continued with students watching a short video and joining an emotion booth rotation. In small groups, students visited each booth and received clear explanations about one emotion at a time, including what the emotion is, what can trigger it, how it feels, when it usually happens and simple ways to handle it. Students also learnt that all emotions are normal and should be expressed in a good and wise way. They then wrote about their own feelings and how they could manage the emotion. This activity encouraged students to think about their real-life experiences.

Next, students worked together in groups to prepare short role plays. They discussed daily situations, made simple scripts and practiced showing emotions in a proper way. This activity helped students use what they had learnt in a new situation. It also supported teamwork and clear communication among students.

At the end of the day, students performed their role plays and shared their ideas with friends. They also wrote about how they felt on their first day of Semester 2 and joined a short discussion, helping them reflect on their learning and start the semester with confidence and positive feelings. The skills learnt during this activity are expected to help students manage their emotions better in their daily school life throughout the semester.
