Primary 2 – Science: Secret Message Experiment
In Science, P2 students learned about Light Sources. Light sources are things that give off light. Some light sources are brighter than the others. To understand the fact, students did a “Secret Message” experiment. This “Secret Message” can only be read under a bright light.
Students prepared a piece of drawing paper, a black marker, glue and scissors to do the experiment. Then, they followed teacher’s instruction to make the “Secret Message”. First, they wrote down their message on the drawing paper. Then, they covered the message with an envelope-shaped paper. After that, they cut the paper and tidied it up. The last step was they tried to read the message under various light; classroom lamp, sun and torch, then concluded which source of light was the brightest.
In the final step, students gave the “Secret Message” to their parents. They explained how to read the message to their parents at home. By explaining to their parents, students could build stronger bond with their parents and parents could confirm the knowledge that their children get from school.
Through this experiment, students did not only deepen their understanding about light sources, but they also got a chance to prove that what they have learned happen in real life. Besides, students also learned to do practical work safely by following instructions.
By doing this series of activity, hopefully students can develop their understanding and critical thinking, not only in class but also at home. Critical thinking is important for them because it will help them to make better decision and solve problems in the future.
