Primary 2 – Orientation: Learning to be Independent

On Wednesday, 23 July 2025, P2 students had an orientation day themed “Independence”. They did several activities such as sandwich party, games; tidying books and stationery, cleaning up dirty table, tidying up work station, folding clothes and reflection.

During the sandwich party, students learnt to prepare their own meal and be responsible to the mess they made during the preparation. They did not just learn making sandwich but also learnt to clean up after they finish making the food. The next activities were games to polish their practical life skills. They were divided into five groups with four members in each group. Each member will play one game: tidying books and stationery, cleaning up dirty table, tidying up workstation or folding clothes.

These activities can give students more chances to boost their practical life skills in fun and meaningful ways. On the other hands, it can also stimulate students to be more independent. Being independent for kids is about trying new things, taking on more responsibilities and making decisions by themselves. By doing so, we also hope they can use the skill not only at school but also at home.

Improving their independence will help them become more confident, boost their self-esteem and help them to improve their problem-solving skills. These skills are essential for the journey of their adulthood in the future. ***
