Primary 2 – English: Writing an Information Text
In the last unit of P2 English, students explored fun ways to gather information from different sources such as audio recordings, videos, news, magazines, books and other texts. During the learning activities, they practised finding important information and were also challenged to create their own information texts. These exciting activities were conducted on Wednesday, May 6th and Monday, May 11th, 2026.
To start the project, students chose one animal topic from four different animals prepared by the teacher. To help them gather information, students were given a home-link task and were encouraged to explore facts about their chosen animal through textbooks, magazines, videos or by searching the internet with their parents’ help. They collected interesting information about the animal’s diet, habitat, body parts and unique characteristics. After gathering the information, students creatively turned their ideas into information texts and presented their work in different forms such as mini books, infographics and posters as their own choice.
Through these activities, students developed important reading, writing and thinking skills in an enjoyable way. They learnt how to find facts, identify important details and organize information clearly. The project also encouraged students to become more curious and independent learners as they explored new knowledge especially about animals.
Learning about information texts is also useful in students’ daily life. It helps them learn how to find, understand and share useful information from books, signs, instructions, videos and other sources around them. By practising these skills, students become more confident in communicating their ideas and sharing what they have learnt with others.
