Primary 1 – Science: Our Rain Sticks Can Make Sounds

P1 students learnt that source of sound is anything that can produce sound. They used their basic concept about how things can make sounds to create a simple musical instruments. They made a rain stick using materials like hard paper, origami paper, rice and rubber bands.

First, they were asked to bring a handful of rice to be put in the tube which is made of hard paper. Then, they covered the holes with origami paper. Then, they tied both ends covered by origami paper with rubber bands. They also had the chances to decorate their rain sticks. From the activities, students acquired that a source of sound can be made from simple things in their surroundings. They noticed that sound travels in the air, then enters our ears so we can hear sounds. They were very enthusiastic in doing all activities. ***
