Primary 1 – Science: My Own Plants Observation

During their lesson on plants, P1 students were introduced to different types of flowers and leaves, as well as the major parts of a plant. They began by observing a real plant brought in by the teacher, comparing its features, and discussing its structure.

Next, students were asked to bring two types of leaves from home for further observation. They were thrilled to participate and showed great enthusiasm as they worked in groups to compare the similarities and differences between the leaves. This small group discussion encouraged collaborative learning and critical thinking.

As an extension activity, students were challenged to plant water spinach seeds as part of their home-link learning. Each student experimented with their own planting method, showing curiosity and creativity. They took their polybags home to observe and care for the seeds alongside their parents.

For the experiment, students gave their plants two different treatments: one polybag was placed in a dark room, and the other was kept outside in sunlight. Over time, they tracked the growth of each plant by drawing observations in a planting journal, noting the differences in growth based on light exposure.

At the end of the project, parents provided feedback on their child’s work, which was submitted as a record of their planting project. The students were highly engaged and enthusiastic throughout the process. Bravo, P1 students! ***
