
Primary 1 – Science: Are We Learning about Forces?
Primary 1 students learned that a force is a push or a pull that can make objects move. They discovered that when we push something, it moves away from us, and when we pull something, it moves toward us. For example, pushing a classroom door makes it open, while pulling a drawer helps it come closer.
After learning the basic idea of forces, the students began to observe their surroundings at school. They identified different objects that could move by pushing or pulling, such as chairs, doors, toy cars, and even school bags with wheels. By recognizing these examples, they learned to classify objects based on how they move and which kind of force acts on them.
Next, the students applied their knowledge by creating a mini lap book about forces. They worked individually, organizing their observations and deciding which examples that best represented pushes and pulls. During discussions, they explained why some objects need a stronger push or pull to move. This stage helped them develop critical thinking and teamwork skills, as they had to plan and reason about their choices.
Finally, students reflected on how forces appear in their everyday lives beyond school. They connected their learning to activities such as opening a refrigerator door, pulling a toy car, or pushing a shopping trolley. Through this process, they began to understand how scientific ideas relate to real-world experiences. By exploring forces in this meaningful way, students not only strengthened their understanding of science but also became curious, independent learners who observe and think logically about the world around them.
