Primary 1 – Orientation: Creating Together, Growing Together

On the third day of orientation, Primary 1 students learnt about the important things at school related to good behaviour. First the students learnt about rules that help them feel safe, happy, and comfortable at school. Together, they discussed five simple rules: be disciplined, keep everything clean and tidy, play safe and no physical touch, no yelling inside the classroom, and respect others. The students shared their thoughts and examples to better understand what each rule means. After learning the rules, they worked in groups to decorate them, and each group was given one rule to design and colour before displaying it on the board. After that students made the sticker rewards that would be used later to track good behaviour in the classroom. They decorated their own sticker rewards using drawings and colours they liked. After that, the students made puppets using a printed face template. They drew the eyes, nose, and mouth, decorated it, and wrote the sentence “I grow beyond the classroom” at the bottom. Each puppet was then attached to an ice cream stick and placed on the display board.

These activities were made to help students not only remember the rules, but also understand why they matter and how to follow them. When the students worked in groups, they learnt to share ideas, listen to each other, and work as a team while decorating the rules. Making the sticker rewards was a fun way to remind them to follow the rules and show good behaviour. Creating the puppets helped them see that school is not just about learning lessons, but also about growing as a person. These activities are useful because it helped students to connect the classroom rules with their own actions and behaviour. Through the creative tasks and discussions, students could see how the rules support a positive classroom environment. Making puppets of themselves with the message “I grow beyond the classroom” encouraged them to reflect on how following rules and showing good habits can be beneficial not only to academic success but also to their personal growth.

These activities helped students grow in many ways. By doing these activities, students learnt to be more aware of their actions, worked better with friends, and followed the rules with care. It also showed students that learning was not just about reading and writing. Learning is also about knowing how to treated others and becoming better people every day. In the future, they will learn to build a classroom where everyone feels respected and responsible. ***
