Primary 1 – Maths – Tick-Tock: Learning Time Together

Primary 1 students have learnt about time in Mathematics lesson by identifying and recalling the seven days of the week and the twelve months of the year. They practiced saying and spelling each one correctly by singing. They also learnt simple vocabulary related to time, such as ‘yesterday’, ‘today’, ‘tomorrow’, ‘before’, ‘after’, and the parts of the day (morning, afternoon, night).

In the classroom, they sorted events into daily and monthly activities, discussing what they usually do on weekdays compare to on weekends or in different months. They explored how clocks show different times of hours and minutes.

As part of the learning confirmation, each group planned a creative mind mapping. They decided how to visually represent the days, months, and clocks with drawings, colours, and labels. At the end of the session, the teacher gave feedback from the result of their mind mapping. The students compared their work with other groups, asked and answered questions, and reflected on how understanding time helps in their daily routines.

The colourful mind maps are now displayed in the classroom as a proud reminder of their learning journey. P1 students were very happy to see their mind map displayed on the wall display. They were also proud when showing their work to friends from other classes. This group activity not only helped students grasp time concepts in a meaningful way, but also supported their teamwork and communication skills. ***
