Primary 1 – L-Fest: Exploring Manahan
Primary 1 students participated in a Learning Festival for celebrating End of Academic Year entitled “Explore Around Manahan” on Wednesday, 3rd June. This activity was designed to provide students with meaningful real-life learning experiences outside the classroom by encouraging them to observe, communicate, collaborate, and practise positive social behavior in public places. Students were divided into several teams, and each team completed three different missions at selected pitstops around Manahan: Patung Manahan, Kantor Paralimpic, and Shelter Manahan. At every pitstop, the teacher provided a mission card containing simple tasks that students completed together through observation, discussion, and interaction with people around them. Throughout the activity, students were encouraged to actively participate, share ideas with their teammates, and demonstrate good manners during the exploration.
Students observed the environment around Manahan, identified public facilities, and noticed rules or signs displayed in each area. They paid attention to how people behaved in public spaces and learned to recognize appropriate and inappropriate actions in the community. Students also identified the importance of maintaining cleanliness, keeping public spaces safe, and respecting shared facilities. During the observation process, students practiced listening carefully to instructions, following directions from teachers, and understanding the purpose of rules that existed in public environments. They also learned and practiced simple polite expressions that could be used when speaking to others, such as greeting people politely, asking permission before speaking, and thanking others respectfully.
Students discussed the missions with their teammates and practiced interacting politely with other people by using respectful language such as “Excuse me,” “Thank you,” and “May I ask a question?” They were encouraged to speak confidently yet politely when asking questions or communicating with people around the Manahan area. Through teamwork and discussion, students shared ideas, listened to different opinions, and supported one another in completing the missions successfully. Students also explained simple rules they found in the environment and discussed why these rules were important for everyone’s comfort and safety. They began to understand that rules helped communities stay organized, peaceful, clean, and respectful for all visitors and members of society.
Students worked together to solve problems and shared ideas about how to behave properly in public spaces. They discussed situations related to cleanliness, discipline, responsibility, and respect for others, as well as decided what actions should be taken when people did not follow the rules. For example, students discussed how to respond if they saw someone littering, speaking impolitely, or not waiting for their turn in public areas. Through these simple problem-solving activities, students learned empathy, self-control, and responsible decision-making. They also developed confidence in expressing positive solutions and understanding the consequences of inappropriate behavior in society.
At the end of the activity, students reflected on their experiences and shared what they had learned about interacting kindly with others and following rules in society. They talked about the importance of using polite language, respecting people in public spaces, and working together as a team. Students were expected to understand that being polite, respectful, responsible, and cooperative helped create a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for everyone in the community. This reflection session also helped students connect their learning experiences in Manahan to their daily lives at school, at home, and in other social environments.
The main objectives of this activity were to teach students how to interact well with other people and how to follow rules in the community. Through real experiences around Manahan, students practiced teamwork, respectful communication, observation skills, and responsible behavior in public places. This activity also aimed to build students’ confidence, independence, and awareness of their roles as good members of society who cared about others and their environment.
