Primary 1 – IPC: Zones of Regulation Poster Making
In their IPC lesson, themed “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” Primary 1 students explored the Zones of Regulation, a framework designed to help them understand and manage emotions. The students learned that feelings and emotions can be categorized into four zones—Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red—each associated with different energy levels. For example, the Blue Zone represents low-energy emotions like sadness or sleepiness, while the Green Zone reflects calm and focused emotions, which are ideal for learning. The Yellow Zone indicates heightened but manageable energy levels, while the Red Zone represents intense emotions requiring self-regulation.
To connect their understanding of emotions to real-life experiences, students participated in an engaging activity where they imitated emotions from each zone. They drew numbered sticks, each corresponding to a specific emotion, and expressed that emotion for photos, which would later be used in a creative project.
Using these photos, the students created emotion posters by sorting the emotions into their respective zones and decorating the posters creatively. This hands-on activity not only helped students better understand the range of emotions people experience but also emphasized the importance of staying in the Green Zone for learning and focus.
The project encouraged creativity, teamwork, and self-awareness, providing students with a meaningful way to recognize and regulate their emotions. It was an engaging and impactful lesson, helping students develop valuable emotional skills while enjoying the process of learning. ***
