Primary 1 – BMC: Knowing Our Three Homes
Primary 1 students officially launched their BMC 2025 through a meaningful learning experience titled “Knowing Our Three Homes.” This activity introduced students to three real community homes: Panti Asuhan Gunungan, Panti Asuhan Hati Tulus, and Panti Wredha Aisyiyah. The goal was to help children build empathy, understand real-life needs, and prepare for charitable action.
The learning began with a series of simple questions from teachers. These questions encouraged students to recall their prior experiences, identify everyday needs, and recognize the living conditions in the three homes.
Students then watched three short videos showing the sleeping rooms, dining areas, and play spaces of each home. With teacher guidance, they described what they observed and identified basic needs such as food, clothes, toys, and books.
The next day, teachers shared stories from the three homes by acting out scenes using simple props like blankets, books, and dolls. Through storytelling, students learnt to classify the needs of the residents: What the children need, what the elderly need, and what items each home lacks. This helped students understand the differences between the homes and their own family environments.
Students also participated in a Gallery Walk across the three P1 classrooms—Thailand, Philippines, and South Korea. Each room displayed photos of the actual homes and posters showing their specific needs. Using an Observation Card, students checked the items required by each home.
At this stage, students practiced comparing information, interpreting what they saw, and drawing conclusions about which needs were most important. These reflections encouraged them to begin thinking of possible solutions they could contribute to the charity project. The session ended with a key message from the teachers: “Together, we can make their home better.”
This Realistic Stage not only enriched the Boundless Math learning experience but also nurtured students’ empathy, awareness, and sense of responsibility as they prepare for the next stages of the charity event. ***
