Primary 1- BMC: Challenge Card and Modelling Stage

Primary 1 students continued their BMC journey by working on the Challenge Card Stage, where they explored problems faced by three different orphanages. In Panti Gunungan there were too few bicycles for many children. Students thought of solutions to help overcome this issue and suggest suitable donations. Besides, in Panti Asuhan Hati Tulus, the study room was small and lacked enough chairs and tables. Students needed to find ways to create a more comfortable learning space and plan possible donations. And the last one is in Panti Wredha Aisyiyah. The television used by the grandmothers was broken. Students discussed how to keep the grandmothers entertained and what donations could support them. Students completed the missions on the challenge cards with thoughtful discussions and strong teamwork.

After finishing the Challenge Card Stage, students entered the Modelling Stage. At the beginning, teachers reminded them of the problems and solutions they had previously identified. Students were then invited to choose one orphanage to help. They were encouraged to understand that choosing one orphanage does not mean ignoring the others. Instead, they learnt to collaborate and divide responsibilities with other groups acting as “agents of kindness.”

Students first created simple sketches of their plans. The next day, they brought their ideas to life by building 3D models using materials such as styrofoam, cardboard, origami paper, and other craft supplies. The models showed the solutions they proposed for each orphanage’s problems as well as the donation ideas they wanted to offer. Throughout the activity, students were excited, creative, and deeply engaged.

The Challenge Card and Modelling Stages provided meaningful learning experiences for Primary 1 students. They not only learnt to identify real problems and propose solutions but also practiced empathy, teamwork, and creative thinking. Their 3D models helped them visualize their ideas clearly and confidently. Overall, the activities strengthened their understanding of social responsibility and problem-solving while making the learning process enjoyable and impactful.
