Nursery: Sensory Exploration
Nursery students have been learning about the story “Going on a Bear Hunt”. As they review the story, they eagerly joined a sensory activity. Students were asked to go to the play ground, where they explored different textured surfaced that represented the various setting from the story. They stepped on plastic grass to represent the grassy land, walked on pebbles as if walking through the jungle, felt the sticky and slippery slime to experience the muddy area, and stepped on ice cubes to represent the snowstorm.
This exploration activity allowed students not only to imagine the story but also to experience it in a more realistic and engaging way. The sensory play was beneficial in enhancing students’ sensory development, helping them strengthen their awareness of touch, temperature, and texture. It also supported their self-regulation skills, as they learned to manage their reactions and emotions while facing different challenges—like stepping on the “muddy land” or the “snowy area”. ***
