Nursery – Maths: Let’s shop for veggies
This week, Nursery students learned about healthy food, focusing on vegetables, and practiced number concepts using a pretend play activity.
To start, students explored different vegetables and reviewed the basics of healthy eating, identifying various types of vegetables and recalling their names and colors. Then, they engaged in pretend play, acting out a shopping activity to buy vegetables, where they learned to recognize and identify numbers on price tags, connecting these numbers to the cost of each item.
As the activity progressed, students practiced counting out pretend money to match each price, challenging them to apply their understanding of numbers in a real-world context. This helped them think strategically about matching quantities and values, reinforcing counting skills and problem-solving abilities.
Finally, through their enthusiastic participation in pretend play, students not only deepened their understanding of healthy eating but also gained a practical understanding of everyday concepts like buying and selling. This hands-on experience encouraged them to integrate counting with real-life scenarios, creating a meaningful and memorable learning opportunity. ***
