Nursery – Maths: Let’s shop for a present
As part of our ongoing theme, “Let’s Have a Party!”, our Nursery students took part in a delightful role-play activity centered around birthday shopping. This hands-on experience gave children the opportunity to explore key concepts related to birthday parties—especially the excitement of choosing and preparing a present for a friend.
Through playful shopping scenarios, students practiced counting skills by selecting items, using both one-to-one correspondence and rote counting. This engaging activity not only supported their numeracy development but also encouraged the use of fine motor and hand-eye coordination.
In addition to cognitive skills, the activity helped foster important social values. Students patiently queued at the cashier, took turns, and expressed gratitude to the shopkeeper—building a foundation for ethical behavior and everyday manners in real-life settings.
