Nursery – Learning Project: The Enormous Turnip
Nursery students have engaged in series of activities as part of their project entitled The Enormous Turnip. They began by watching a video to review the story and then compared two different versions of the story. It helped them to understand that stories can have variations in characters and details.
The project extended beyond story telling as the students explored the turnip itself. They learned about its’ parts, as well as the different colours of turnips. To reinforce their learning, they took a hands-on challenge of assembling turnip puzzle pieces, allowing them to identify and name each part of the plant.
Inspired by this, students were challenged to create their own version of the story. They chose the colour of the turnip and selected the strong human and animal characters to help pull the turnip out. This activity sparked their imagination, encouraged creativity, develop critical thinking and decision making- skills that will support them throughout their academic journey and future life. ***
