Nursery – Arts: My Beautiful Balloon
Nursery students had some explorations about balloons. It was started by listening to the story of “The Blue Balloon”. They also had a fun game using balloons, which were tapping balloons and transferring balloons game. Teachers delivered the story through an interactive video. They listened to stories to know how balloons could be blow and burst or float in the air. In the Next activity, students made use of the balloon to have a fun game with their friends. They practiced to tap the balloon in the air while doing rote counting from 0-15. Moreover, they transferred the balloons in pairs. They were not allowed to hold the balloon, but they had to put the balloon in between their forehead to transfer it. Students also expressed their learning by making artwork using balloons. They were provided with paper, paint, and balloons filled with water. Students were asked to draw lines on the paper and then make balloons stamping on it.
As they listened to the story, students built their imaginations and enriched their vocabularies at once. Tapping balloon games gave students opportunity to practice their gross motor as they handled the balloons, bat them through the air, and tried to keep them airborne. It was also become a fun way to practice rote counting. Students also learned to cooperate with their friends, trusting their friends and communicating with their friends when they had to transfer the balloons in pairs. Making balloons artwork helps the students to develop their fine motor ability in drawing lines which is also beneficial for their writing skills.
Through the connected learning activities, it is expected that students will get a meaningful learning experience, in which they will be able to connect their prior knowledge to the new knowledge through those activities. Further, the students are able to build their personal goals in term of being resilient and a collaborators in their real life. ***
