Nursery – Arts: Exploring pond life
Nursery students explored pond life as one of the natural habitats where various animals and minibeasts live. During the discussion, students learned that ponds are home to creatures such as frogs, fish, snails, and other small minibeasts. They talked about how these animals live in the water and around plants in the pond.
After the discussion, students worked together in groups to create a pond model. Each student had a different role in the group. Some students painted the pond outline, others crumpled wax papers to make pond plants, while their friends pasted the crumpled papers as plants. The students also added pom-poms as pebbles and straws to create a small bridge across the pond. Through this collaborative activity, students learned to share responsibilities and work cooperatively with their friends.
This activity helped students develop their creativity, teamwork, and fine motor skills as they painted, crumpled, and pasted different materials. It also strengthened their understanding of habitats and living things. These experiences support students’ learning today by encouraging active participation and curiosity, while also helping them build important skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity that will benefit them in their future learning.
