Early Years Program: Break the Routine
EY1 and EY2 students joined the Break the Routines activity to build awareness of safety and emotions through creative, hands-on learning. Prior to the session, everyone enjoyed a fun group workout, moving and stretching together to energize their bodies and get ready for the day’s activities.
EY2 students then recalled familiar safety rules and shared when these rules are important. In small groups, they chose a rule such as safe touch, stranger danger, using equipment properly, or the chant “Stop, Say No, Walk Away, Tell an Adult.” They created simple visual props like posters, drawings, and hand signs, then rehearsed short demonstrations with chants and role play to share with their younger peers. Meanwhile, EY1 students explored different feelings such as sad, angry, excited, happy, and scared. They created colourful headbands to represent each emotion, acted out situations based on their chosen feeling, and practiced simple solutions to handle those emotions.
This collaborative experience strengthened social emotional learning, encouraged creativity, and empowered students to express feelings, stay active, and share safety messages with confidence. ***
