Early Year 2 – Recycled Robot Learning Project: From Building to Launching
After beginning their robot-making journey earlier in the week, the EY2 children returned to class eager to continue their creative work. Their robots—built from boxes, bottle caps, straws, and paper cups—were now taking shape. On this fourth day, the focus shifted to improvement and reflection. The children observed their unfinished robots carefully, identifying which parts to fix or strengthen. The teacher guided them with gentle prompts: “Is your robot standing properly?” or “Do you want to make it taller or stronger?”
They learned that small changes could make big differences—adding balance, colour, or special features that showed what their robots could do. This process of revising helped children develop patience, problem-solving, and pride in their progress.The following day brought a special milestone — the Robot Launch Day. Each child proudly presented their creation in front of classmates and teachers, introducing their robots with confidence: “This is Cooking Robot. It helps to make yummy food.” They spoke about the recycled materials they used and what inspired their designs. Classmates listened attentively, clapping and offering kind comments after each presentation.Through this process, the children discovered that learning does not stop at making—it continues through reflection, communication, and appreciation. They learned to value their effort, celebrate others’ work, and speak with confidence. As they prepare to share their robots with the Primary 4 visitors next week, one question remains: What new connections and inspirations will this exciting exhibition bring?
