Early Year 2 – Outdoor Learning Project: Discovering Nature Together at Taman Balekambang
The EY2 outing to Taman Balekambang offered children and parents a refreshing chance to learn together in an open, natural setting. Before exploring the park, teachers revisited the types of public places the children had studied and reminded them about responsible behaviour in shared spaces. With this gentle review, families began their adventure with enthusiasm, ready to notice, compare, and ask questions about the world around them.
Throughout the park, a series of hands-on challenges encouraged different ways of thinking and moving. Children compared leaves and pebbles, strengthening early measurement and logical reasoning. Musical activities invited families to sing familiar songs, boosting confidence and auditory memory. The visual-spatial task—locating specific landmarks—helped sharpen orientation and observational skills, while the gross-motor trail encouraged children to balance, climb, coordinate, and follow multi-step instructions with support from their parents. Each challenge nurtured multiple intelligences and allowed children to apply their classroom knowledge outdoors.
The learning culminated in an eco-printing tote bag activity, where children transformed the natural items they had collected into simple artwork. This creative moment strengthened fine-motor control and invited them to see nature as a source of inspiration. Beyond its joyful atmosphere, the outing fostered resilience, independence, and a lasting appreciation for real-world learning—reminding us that meaningful growth happens when children explore confidently and collaborate warmly with the adults who guide them. ***
