Early Year 2 – Maths: Paper Plane Race to Learn Numbers
EY2 students had an engaging Math learning experience through a Paper Plane Race activity that combined creativity, hands-on practice, and teamwork. The activity began with students making paper planes at home with their parents, fostering family involvement, and then creating additional planes together at school.
Each student was given instructions to write specific numbers on their planes based on the teacher’s guidance. They then took turns flying their planes in a sequence as directed, which required them to carefully identify and recognize numbers on their own and each other’s planes. This step reinforced their understanding of number order and required them to pay attention to detail.
After the race, students proudly displayed their planes on cloud shapes marked with corresponding numbers, which they had crafted the previous day. This final step allowed students to connect their numbered planes to the clouds, reinforcing number recognition in a visually engaging way.
This interactive activity not only made learning numbers enjoyable but also integrated art and math, encouraged listening and following directions, and fostered collaboration and teamwork among classmates. The Paper Plane Race provided a memorable way for students to deepen their understanding of numbers while boosting enthusiasm and cooperation in the classroom. ***
