
Early Year 2 – Math: Shapes’ Pattern on Chef’s Hat
EY2 is learning about the process of making things to learn creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. They are invited to observe how the process of making food and the process of making buildings. Then they explored the tools used in both processes and learnt their simple functions. In Maths, students are invited to observe the process of making food, and they are asked to observe the shape of the ingredients and tools used; are they similar to the two-dimensional shapes they have learned? They also discussed the profession of chefs who work in making food industry professionally. Through the discussion, EY2 students were able to mention that chefs must be careful so as not to skip steps in cooking and cook carefully to be safe and produce delicious food. To conclude the lesson, they made a two-dimensional pattern on their chef’s hat. Through this fun activity, EY2 students are encouraged to develop their thinking and communication processes through learning activities that are connected to their daily experiences. ***
